More than 100 freelancers kicked off the Christmas season with a get-together.

Hosted by Crunch Accounting at Merkabar to coincide with National Freelancers Day, the celebration saw freelancers from industries as diverse as design, copywriting, IT contracting, consultants and public relations.

National Freelancers Day recognises the contribution the UK's self-employed population makes to the economy, and has been celebrated up and down the UK in November for the last six years.

The proportion of freelancers in Brighton is around twice the national average.
Crunch founder and managign director Darren Fell said: "Freelancers very rarely get their own Christmas party so it's great to be able to bring so many of them together and buy them a few drinks to kick off the festive season.
"We've seen huge growth in self-employment over the last few years, and we try to do everything we can to support this vital but under-represented section of the business community."
