A HIGH achiever has been named one of the most influential women in tech.
Marit Thowsen, director of technical delivery at American Express, Brighton, is up for team leader of the year at the FDM Everywoman in Technology Awards.
The awards, sponsored by leading Brighton-founded IT service provider FDM, aim to redress the lack of women applicants for tech roles.
Despite predictions the sector will be worth £221 billion by 2016, just one in 20 IT job applicants are female.
Sheila Flavell, chief operating officer of FDM Group, said: “Gender balance in the workplace is vital to the UK’s economy; it improves communication, accelerates productivity and drives innovation.
“It is inspiring to see more women taking on high powered positions and becoming role models to females at the beginning of their IT careers.”
The 2015 awards ceremony will take place on March 17 at the London Hilton.
