A PUB has been closed by environmental health officers after they discovered an infestation of mice.
Rother District Council officers found mice droppings throughout Camber Castle Public House in Lydd Road, Camber, on Monday after receiving a complaint from a member of the public.
Mice droppings were even found in parts of the pub used to prepare food.
The council successfully applied to Hastings Magistrates’ Court for an order on Wednesday which means the premises will remain closed until the council is satisfied that the health risk has been removed.
The pub owners have now employed a pest control company following the council ‘s discovery and have been carrying out extensive cleaning.
Cllr Ian Hollidge, the district council’s cabinet member for environment, transport and the public realm, said: “Mice are incontinent and their urine could easily contaminate food, leading to serious health problems for customers.
“Our officers acted quickly to protect the public and I am pleased that the court made the order to close the premises and protect public health.”
