ALL eyes were on America last week as one of the most pivotal events in the Presidential nominations unfolded.

But what viewers of the Iowa Caucus might not have realised is that the all important internet access to the event was provided by Brighton company OptaNet.

With a huge number of news networks broadcasting Hilary and Trump across the US and overseas, the internet service provider installed multiple short term contract gigabit internet circuits, including last minute circuits within one week of the additional bandwidth being agreed.

The Iowa Caucus is noteworthy for the amount of media attention it receives during US Presidential election campaign.

Since 1972, the Iowa caucuses has been the first major electoral event of the nominating process for President of the United States.

Past winners of their party’s nomination who have gone on to win the general election include Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan.

OptaNet was selected thanks its longstanding relationship with Microsoft as an official vendor.

Nicholas Sheppard, sales & marketing manager, said: “There were so many news crews it was unbelievable

“It was amazing to see it all happen. You really get that sense of history being written.

“When you walk around you see camera after camera panning around and people doing news reports.

“We’ve been doing events like this for 18 years and coming to the US for a long time.

“It all went very smoothly. Everything was in place and we had really good feedback from news networks and the event organisers.

“It was an exciting feeling to be part of it. It’s incredible that we’re a company from Brighton and been involved in the Presidential campaign. We’re proud to have been involved.”

Managing Director David Elliott added: “Delivering the internet and the network for the Iowa Caucus is no small undertaking.

“This event goes a long way to decide who will represent their party and potentially end up being the President of the United States of America.

"We are proud to be a part of this process and that OptaNet was chosen to deliver such a high profile project.”
