Train passengers have been warned to brace themselves for travel chaos due to a major signal failure at one of London's busiest hubs.

A signalling problem at Victoria station is restricting access to seven platforms, meaning fewer trains are able to operate.

There are delays and cancellations to Southern Railway and Gatwick Express services, with disruption likely to continue throughout the day on trains to and and from the station.

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said: "Our engineers are working hard to fix the problem and we're doing everything we can with the train operators to minimise the impact on their passengers.

"The railway in and around London is incredibly busy and even relatively small issues can have a big knock-on effect on passengers across the network.

"We know many people travelling into Victoria will have a difficult journey to work this Monday morning and are very sorry for the disruption caused."

Southern tweeted: "Due to signalling problems at #LondonVictoria fewer trains are able to run on London bound lines."

Gatwick Express also tweeted about the disruption, saying: "Due to a signalling problem at #LondonVictoria, fewer trains are able to use the stn causing some alterations and delays of up to 30mins."

Southeastern services are unaffected by the disruption, Network Rail said.
