GOVIA Thameslink Railway is to take legal action against a train drivers' union after its members refused to drive new, longer Gatwick Express trains.
Aslef is in dispute with the company, saying it has never reached an agreement for the new eight to 12-carriage trains on the Gatwick Airport to London Victoria service. Normally the service has five or ten carriages.
The company said Aslef members refused to drive the first two services that had been due to operate over the past 10 days.
Following the application for an injunction, the matter is likely to be considered at a hearing at the High Court in the coming days.
Aslef is planning to ballot its members for industrial action over the dispute. It said longer trains operated by drivers are unsafe and believes passengers want guards on trains.
