For sale - one giant 45 metre wheel with several careful owners.

The Brighton Wheel has officially gone on sale ahead of its removal from the city’s seafront this spring.

The attraction’s owners are looking for a new destination for the wheel after almost five years on Brighton’s seafront with more than 750,000 visitors riding the attraction.

It has now been confirmed that the wheel's last day of trading will be Sunday May 8 with dismantling work due to begin the next day.

It is anticipated it will take about five days to bring down before being transported back to storage in the Netherlands ahead of its relocation to a new location.

It had previously been homed in Copenhagen, Paris and Cape Town.

A petition bidding to take the Brighton Wheel to Ramsgate has attracted just under 300 signatures since it was launched earlier this month.

The R50-SP Mobile Wheel Of Excellence has “intrigued millions of visitors” and “attracts people from all different ages and backgrounds” according to the agents now trying to obtain its sale.

For their money, the new owner will get an “icon that can revitalise an area and bring vibrancy to its location”.

The 50 metre attraction is expected to be replaced by a 300 metre long zip wire at Dalton’s Bastion this summer.

The wheel attraction has been forced to up sticks as part of a legal agreement bringing the £46.2 million i360 to the city.

Potential bidders can learn of the attraction's price on application.

A spokesman for Paramount Entertainments said: "With consent for the Brighton Wheel coming to an end, we are announcing that our last day of operation will be Sunday the 8th May.

"The Wheel will be transported back to Holland, and then on to its new destination which we will inform you of once it's been confirmed.

"Over 3/4m people have ridden on the Wheel since it opened and we would like to thank them all for their support and custom.

"As a much-photographed backdrop for many of the city’s notable events from the Marathon to the Veteran Car Run and appearing in the artwork of local school children as well as professional artists, Brightonians have shown how much they have enjoyed the sight of The Brighton Wheel on their seafront.

"We are working closely with Brighton and Hove City Council on proposals for a new attraction on this site, the Brighton Zip, and we look forward to sharing more details shortly."
