A SPECIALLY designed babygrow has been launched to help parents save their child’s life if they stop breathing.

The free outfit has been created by St John Ambulance in Sussex in partnership with Tesco stores in the county.

The charity came up with the idea after parents said in a survey this was the first aid emergency they feared the most.

Despite this, only one in four parents know what to do in this life or death situation.

The babygrow, which is for three to six-month-olds has instructions printed on it telling mums and dads what they need to do.

It features nursery rhyme favourite Humpty Dumpty telling parents how to give five puffs and 30 pumps on the chest followed by two puffs and another 30 pumps to help their baby if they have stopped breathing.

There are also clear instructions on the collar of the babygrow and on the tag to help parents remember what to do.

St John Ambulance regional director for Sussex Elizabeth Harper said: “Working with Tesco gives us a great opportunity to help spread the incredibly important lesson of baby CPR to millions of parents.

“We hope the worst will never happen but the babygrow, and our online video, shows parents what to do in a very clear and simple way.”

This latest campaign by the charity is a follow up from the high profile Nursery Rhymes Inc. drive released in January 2016.

The campaign involved a video aimed at making baby CPR easy to remember for parents through nursery rhyme stars and song.

The babygrows will be available at the following Tesco stores today (thurs oct 13) between 9.45am and 4.30pm:

Bexhill Superstore, Ravenside Retail Leisure Park; Bognor Superstore, Shripney Road; Chichester Extra, Fishbourne Road; Crawley Extra, Hazelwick Ave; Eastbourne Extra, Lottbridge Drove; Horsham Extra, Wickhurst Lane; Shoreham Extra, Upper Shoreham Road and West Durrington Extra in Worthing.

St John Ambulance volunteers will also be on hand to provide free first aid demonstrations in baby CPR between 9.45am and 2pm at the Bexhill, Crawley, Eastbourne, Horsham, Shoreham and West Durrington stores.
