THIS week we put the questions to Pete Murr, chief creative officer at Me Learning, an online training company in Shoreham...

  • What work-related worries keep you awake at night?

Good question. I am a natural worrier and it usually takes me around an hour to finally go to sleep.

I often worry about things out of my control.

For example, we provide an online service that people rely on 24 hours a day 365 days a year, so I worry about intergalactic cyber-attacks, normal stuff really.

  • What’s the first thing you do when you arrive in your office and get to your desk?

I always make myself a cup of tea then I look at the scraps of paper on my desk and tell myself that one day I will tidy them into a pile.

  • Do you lunch in or out of the office?

Lunch is always an inconvenience for me and tends to get in the way of my thinking, talking and typing.

I generally sit at my desk and eat my plain home-made sandwiches.

If I forget my sandwiches I curse the fact that I have to leave my desk.

  • What’s the proudest you have been with a recent piece of work?

We recently set up eight online training platforms for a group of eight large local authorities.

These training platforms each contain around 200 e-learning courses.

This implementation took less than four weeks and to date many thousands of people are using the systems without any problems.

  • Where do you network?

Good question. Up until now I have not networked because my head has been down in the murky world of software and courseware development.

  • How do you exercise?

Most days I am at my desk at 8am and leave my desk at 6pm so I have very little time for exercise.

However, I have a five-year-old boy and a seven-year old girl who insist on being carried up to bed on my back or arms while they hold on to each bannister.

This is tougher than going to the gym.

  • What qualities do you look for when hiring a new recruit?

I look for hard-working people who are intelligent, ambitious and loyal.

I also look for people who have kind natures, who are polite and are good communicators.

  • What one thing would improve the quality of your working life?

Someone who will stand behind my desk each day and remove the knots in my shoulders or at the very least remind me now and then to sit up straight, walk around the room and put the notes on my desk into a pile.

  • If you could have your dream job what would it be?

I consider myself very fortunate because I am in my dream job.

  • What is your top tip for business success?

To be successful I strongly believe that you must work hard, be honest and treat others how you would want to be treated yourself.

  • What is your ambition for the company?

I would like to see Me Learning as one of the leading suppliers of learning management systems and e-learning courses to all organisations and professionals in the UK. The world is next.

  • What is so special about Me Learning?

Despite our growth over the last few years, we still see ourselves as a close family.

We are very lucky to have wonderful, thoughtful and dedicated staff who all instinctively work with the principle that the customer comes first.
