What work-related worries keep you awake at night?

I’m glad to say that I learnt many years ago, when I suddenly found myself working all hours, that you can take too much work home with you.

So about ten years ago I made a decision to not deal with emails outside of work hours any more, although I’m still often on the phone until 9pm.

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive in your office and get to your desk?

Every morning the team and I meet to review the previous day’s appointments and assess the day ahead to make sure that we’re all on the same page.

Fortunately I’m pretty well organised (some would say OCD) plus I have the daily diary on the computer.

Do you lunch in or out of the office?

As the job takes me out of the office on a daily basis I have some favourite eateries around town.

Marmalade in Kemp Town is a favourite and if I’m close to the office I love the take-away meze from Four Seasons.

If time is short I’ll usually try to grab one of the magnificent sandwiches from next door at Fourth and Church and eat it on the hoof on the way to appointments.

What’s the proudest you have been with a recent piece of work?

The proudest I’ve been recently is being appointed president of the Brighton and Hove Estate Agency Association.

I’m Brighton born and bred and I’ve been an estate agent for 31 years so it was a proud and humbling moment to have been nominated and elected.

Where do you network?

I suppose I don’t really network in the traditional sense because, fortunately, an awful lot of business comes our way at Hamptons through word of mouth, repeat business and existing relationships.

I sort of already have an extended network of people who know what I do through having grown up here and having had my kids grow up here.

Plus being 6ft 6in tall does sometimes have its advantages.

How do you exercise?

I’ve always been actively involved in sport.

In my younger days I played for the Brighton B52s, one of the first British American Football teams.

Since, I’ve developed a passion for sea swimming and can be found splashing about in the briny from early spring (in a wetsuit, I’m not completely barmy) right the way through to October.

I’m hugely fortunate to live just a few hundred yards from Hove seafront so it’s literally on my doorstep.

Sunday mornings it’s a bike ride on the Downs with a group of like-minded middle-aged men.

The peacefulness and beauty of the Downs is a brilliant stress buster.

And then lastly the gym also features and I love going to Cycle City for my spin classes up by Hove Station.

What qualities do you look for when hiring a new recruit?

I think it’s hugely important that people are themselves and don’t try to be the estate agent they perhaps think they should be to get the job.

After all, people buy people and as much as I look for ambition, personal skills and good communicators, I think a strong character and the right person for the right position is essential.

What one thing would improve the quality of your working life?

Apart from trying to invent how to get 28 hours in the day, I must admit I do miss the activity, drama, stress and beauty of having my two daughters at home. Who knows, grandchildren could help... no pressure girls!
