THE Hilton Brighton Metropole hotel has donated an amazing £100,003.77 to charities.

The money was raised at its midsummer ball called A Night at the Musicals.

The four charities to benefit were Action Medical Research, Chailey Heritage Foundation, Chestnut Tree House and The Starr Trust.

Sponsors – including Skeritts, E3 Production Group, Cardens Accountants, PSAV, Reveries and CJ Thorne Civil Engineers – gathered at the hotel to celebrate and hand over the cheques.

The money raised will be used to improve the lives, aspirations and care of disabled, sick and disadvantaged young people in Sussex through the work of the charities.

Former Olympic figure skater Robin Cousins said: “It was a thrill to be a part of the midsummer ball and what a tremendous night it turned out to be for our amazing Sussex charities.

“To say it was a success is an understatement and there will be many smiling faces connected to all the charities.”

The ball was held on June 24 and Mr Cousins was involved as part of the night at the musicals competition, organised by entertainment company E3.

Six personalities took part.

Anthony Nelson represented Action Medical Research, Keris Lea performed for Chailey Heritage Foundation, TV presenter Marcella Whittingdale and Matt Turner took part for Chestnut Tree House and skating star Robin Cousins and Robb Starr for The Starr Trust.

Anthony Nelson was crowned winner with his Gene Kelly inspired Singin’ in the Rain routine.

Thanks to their efforts, the six performers raised more than £10,720 for the charities via their online giving pages.

Money was also raised on the night through a variety of fundraising initiatives, including a game of heads or tails for a trip to Paris, a charity auction for prizes that included a yacht, and a wish tree.

DM Thomas Foundation for Young People helps a number of charities support young people who may be disabled, vulnerable, sick or homeless.

This is the 16th year that the foundation has held a ball in partnership with the hotel to help the young people of Sussex.

Each year a local charity benefits from a foundation grant following the ball.

This year this was extended to four local charities who all worked on the committee to organise the event.

The Hilton Brighton Metropole hotel takes great pride in supporting and hosting community events.

The handover of the cheques took place in a presentation at the hotel on Monday evening.

All four charities were thrilled.
