NEW Hove retailer Barker and Stonehouse has teamed up with street artist team ART+BELIEVE to create attention-grabbing installations in its store.

The distinctive artwork has been incorporated into the store’s interior scheme.

Based in Brighton, ART+BELIEVE are a duo of street artists whose work combines geometric forms and vibrant colours to create large scale murals that fit into architectural landscapes.

Drawing inspiration from their travels and different cultures around the world, pattern, texture, shape and colour are at the heart of their artwork.

Barker and Stonehouse’s own creative stylist Claire Hornby viewed some of the duo’s projects on social media and later invited the pair to collaborate with the brand by designing murals in key areas of the newest store in Hove, the tenth store in the UK for the retail chain.

The brief was to design a number of separate murals within three different spaces.

Each area was to house a varying product range so it was important that the duo created a distinctive feel for each area whilst maintaining continuity across the store.

Equally the artists needed to bring the ART+BELIEVE flair for creativity and design to each motif, producing genuinely eye-catching artwork.

Ms Hornby worked closely with the creative team who used a variety of materials including paints, metallic spray paint, brushes and rollers over a two-week period to meet the brief.

Charlotte and Dan from ART+BELIEVE said: “We love the new Hove store.

“It’s a great space, with lots of exciting products on show.

“We believe that our designs work really well with the industrial style of the Barker and Stonehouse store.

“With ART+BELIEVE we have travelled extensively creating our designs across the globe and we have loved seeing reminders of the exotic places we visited through the product range available at Barker and Stonehouse.”

Barker and Stonehouse opened in Hove on April 1.

It is situated at 184-186 Old Shoreham Road.

Managing Director James Barker said at the time of the launch: “The reaction received at our Hove opening from the local area and from those who travelled even further was fantastic.

“Introducing over 2,000 new customers to our brand and heritage is just the start that we were hoping for, putting Barker and Stonehouse on the map in this thriving and creative area.

“Every one of our stores has built up a hugely loyal following thanks to our knowledgeable staff and quality furnishings, and we are so pleased that the reaction in Hove has already reflected this sentiment.”

Last year saw Barker and Stonehouse celebrate a milestone of 70 years since the company opened its first store in the North of England back in 1946 after the two founders, Charles More than 2,000 people visited the store during the opening.

Welcoming visitors throughout the very busy day, TV favourite and renowned architect George Clarke officially opened the store.
