The saga over the development of the world’s largest water park in Newhaven has had more twists than the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed ride at Disneyland Paris.

The project was announced in a blaze of optimism which quickly cooled when the developer, Round Table Entertainments, proved long on words and short on action.

Lewes District Council and East Sussex County Council insist they have acted in the best interests of the area in selling the land to the Kuwaiti company behind the scheme. So far the only public exhibition of the plans has raised more questions than answers.

It does not instil confidence when The Argus is forced to submit Freedom of Information requests and trawl through documents to get to the bottom of who owns the companies involved and what each party has promised the other.

Of course commercial transactions will be subject to some level of confidentiality but transparency, whenever possible, is always the best guarantee of the successful outcome of any endeavour.

Now that a new team is on board at Round Table we hope they will show energy, enthusiasm and diligence in pursing this important project.

Let’s hope the hair-raising surprises remain in the theme park and not in the real world.
