Business Development – October, 30 (8-10am)

This month, following a request form a recent survey the format has changed slightly - from two speakers to one, which will allow more time to network.

Mike has been the Director at the Sussex Innovation Centre at the University of Sussex since 1997. The 40,000 square foot Centre provides specialist accommodation and support services to over 50 technology companies covering most sectors. Under his Directorship, the Centre has achieved sustained success both in levels of occupancy and the growth of its client companies. Mike has been responsible for introducing a wide range of specialist entrepreneurial support. The Centre has achieved a high profile and is frequently used as an example of best practice.

Mike Herd was named as Sussex Businessman of the Year in November 2000. The Sussex Innovation Centre was runner-up in the 2004 UKBI’s Incubator Exemplar award.

Mike has a degree in Applied Physics and Business Studies and prior to joining the Innovation Centre enjoyed a 15-year career in the oil exploration and development industry, where he undertook projects in over 20 countries.
