Red lipstick, rock ‘n’ roll, and a large range of records were some of the things found at the specialised vintage Jukebox and Retro Fair at Brighton’s Racecourse, Freshfield Road.

Swinging music sizzled in the electric atmosphere as the fair transported its visitors back to the American 50s while it celebrated its tenth anniversary last Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27.

Brighton based Molly Belle, of Embassy Court, and owner of Mistress of Vintage has sold her range of 40s and 50s vintage clothing at the fair for eight of the years.

Miss Belle said: “It gets really busy, and you see a lot of rock and roll people from Brighton here.”

“The fair’s so different because it’s just specific to vintage and jukeboxes.”

Hundreds of people attended, the majority looking like they had just walked off the set of Grease.

With more than 100 stalls the fair has doubled in size since 2004 when it was in one room with fewer than 50 stalls.

New face at the event was fashion stylist Lindsay Crafts from Campbell/Crafts.

Ms Crafts heard about Jukebox and Retro while touring around the country with her online boutique store.

She said: “I’m obsessed with vintage, and Brighton is known for being really big. I would come again, I love Brighton.”

Dee Steed, organiser, said: “The fair managed to turn a corner around six years ago and started to become a lot busier.”

One of the reasons for this is that people are now coming to Brighton who go to their Chessington Fair, Surrey, which runs every November.

The Jukebox and Retro Fair will be at the Chessington Community College, Garrison Lane, November 1 and 2.

As well as having a variety of stalls that specialise in jukeboxes, vintage clothing, retro novelties, records, and American culture, the two day fair has a classic car and bike display, a vintage tea room, and live bands with jive dancing.

The Brighton Jukebox and Retro Fair is booked for the same weekend in 2015.
