Old Spice Cooking Club For Older Men.

We Spoke to Ken, who has taken part in this seven week cooking course.

Ken joined after the sad passing away of his wife who was a professional cook. He found that he could boil an egg, potatoes and the odd vegetable under the instruction of his wife.

He found that his knowledge was limited and meat and fish was a no go. After being asked if he could cook by Helen Jones our local community development worker and his reply was ‘not a chance’.

He was introduced to Old Spice where he met other men in a similar situation. With help from the course leader they each cooked a course and sat down to eat the meal afterwards.

Ken said they were provided with an apron, a lever arch file to keep the recipies in together with plastic wallets to keep them clean.

The best thing of all was that the ingredients were provided and everything was free.

‘we have learnt how to eat healthily, shop wisely, store food correctly and stay safe in the kitchen.

‘Ken can’t wait for the next course to start and is hoping more men will come and join in too!
