A church in Brighton put on a free all-ages activity morning on Monday as part of Brighton and Hove City Council’s Active for Life scheme.
The event took place in the playground at Hertford Junior School in Hollingdean and was run by Christ Church of Brighton.
The organisers wanted to show how thankful they were for their bodies, and celebrate physical ability. The event was also a chance to strengthen bonds within the community and give children and adults the opportunity to mix.
The morning’s activities included silly races, a hockey match and a rousing game of Captains on Board. Despite the winter chills the event attracted plenty of partakers and attendees ranged from just three weeks old to a more mature 72.
Youngster Freedie, 5, showed his competitive spirit, and said: “The best bit was winning; I want my friends to come next time.”
Bob Hill, a regular at the church from Patcham said: “Despite the chilly morning, we all warmed up quickly. As a Christian its great to see people enjoying being active as God cares about us physically as well as spiritually.”
The event was followed by a buggy-friendly walk on Tuesday which also started from Hertford Junior School and took the walkers across the downs.
