The miniature steam railway in Hove Park is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year. A number of people, tourists and residents alike, enjoyed the extended opening hours and paid 6 denarius (£1) for their little trip on the narrow railway line on 1st May.

Every year Rabbi Elizabeth Tikvah Sarah, the Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue Rabbi, receives a Christmas card from the City Council. Receiving such a card, when a Chanukkah card could be seen as more appropriate, is viewed as “cultural insensitivity” by the Rabbi.

A small team of dedicated volunteers are gearing themselves up to provide a traditional Christmas dinner to over a hundred people on Christmas Day this year. This not only includes all the spud peeling, table laying, hanging of decorations and checking that the television works for the Queen’s speech, but also they also make sure that the all-important guests have a lift there and back should they need one.

If you are looking for a new experience, are interested or just curious in the spiritual and possess an open mind, then this coming Sunday’s ‘Spirit of the Millennium Festival 2009’ could just be the thing for you. Billed as “The Feel Good Festival”, the event takes place at Hove Town Hall between 10.30am and 7.30pm. Admission is £2.50 (free for children under 12) and all proceeds go to the Brighthelm Healing Trust. The Brighthelm Healing Trust are a non-profit making charitable trust that promotes spiritual healing in Sussex.

With the street closed to traffic and the weather forecast looking decidedly iffy, the residents of Goldstone Road came out of their houses yesterday lunchtime, with enough food to feed a small army, to spend their Sunday afternoons together.

The 23rd July by-election may be the most important local council election ever held in this area. The resignation of Conservative Councillor Paul Lainchbury removed the single vote majority the Conservative Administration could achieve on any one issue if all the opposition parties voted together against them. This puts a lot of power into voters hands right now! You need to question these people and find out what they offer in exchange for your vote and your trust.
