“Soul by the Sea” is Brighton’s Easter Festival.
On Saturday 7th April, MC Tempo will compere Kidz Klub, from 11:00am – 12:00pm, with games and loads of laughs. At noon, Duggie Dug Dug will provide children’s entertainment for the whole family.
Then from 1 pm there will be wholly singing with Written Word Choir, South Oxhey Choir, Jake Jon Music and Tom + Olly, finishing by 5.30 pm with Phatfish, the contemporary Christian rock band from Brighton.
On Sunday, from 2:00pm – 5:00pm , there is a staged outdoor theatre production of the “Passion of Christ, the Easter Story” on the beach, between the Nudist Beach and the Banjo Groyne.
A Passion play is a dramatic presentation depicting the Passion of Jesus Christ: his trial, suffering and death. It is a traditional part of Lent in several Christian denominations, particularly in Catholic tradition like the Oberammergau Passion Play, performed every 10 years. In 2011, Brighton hosted its first Passion Play on the seafront and attracted thousands from the surrounding community.
This could become a tradition as good as the annual Burning of the Clocks.
The lead actor/director is James Burke-Dunsmore who specialises in playing Jesus Christ in passion plays around the country. He will be performing in London's Trafalgar Square on Good Friday.
There will be much anachronism: a Flash mob is planned on the day of Crucifiction and a feature film drama for next year. For more information , see various web-sites and the obligatory Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/soulbythesea
