Lewes Football Club survive – for now. The Rooks on Wednesday faced a winding up order over an unpaid tax debt of £110,000 but having paid some £30,000 a judge at the High Court granted the club a three months stay (in which they must make monthly payments of £10,000) to please the HMRC – a deal that will still leave Lewes FC £50,000 left to find (excluding interest). The agreement, thankfully, keeps the club alive and will hopefully bring joy to fans that have been working hard to help the club’s survival. Among them is Lee Cobb who recently who walked the 106 miles of the South Downs Way with his lads to raise money for his beloved Rooks. The deal reached on Wednesday is simply an adjournment, so further action, ergo a winding up order, could still be placed on the club, but for the time-being there is a breath of relief being sighed. South Coast teams have not been having a good run of luck of late: think Brighton and Hove Albion, Portsmouth et al, so any piece of good news seems better than no news!
