Pirates, princesses and puppies took over Patcham Infant School today, to celebrate Book Week.

Children dressed up as their favourite book characters in the final day of a fun-filled week dedicated to reading and writing.

Headteacher Margaret Enoch said: "Book Week gets children excited about reading and literacy."

On Monday, storyteller Mark Bedford helped children write their own stories, and inspired them with tales of his own.

Children’s author and illustrator Nick Sharratt visited each year group, signing books and helping pupils invent characters.

Pupils were also given the chance to buy their own books throughout the week at after-school book fairs.

Miss Enoch said: "It has been a thoroughly enjoyable week, and all the children worked really hard."
