Around 500 Portslade residents turned out to commemorate the dead from two world wars in Easthill Park today.

The parade was led by British Legion branch president Ray Bromley, 80, marching from Portslade Town Hall to the park with large numbers lining the route as it does every year with many walking alongside.

The service was conducted by the Rev Richard Rushforth from the parish of St Andrew and St Nicolas. Hove MP Celia Barlow and her daughter were in the parade along with the town's four councillors.

The 6th Hove Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps magnificently led the march resplendent in their contest uniforms. Music for the hymns was played by the Hove Salvation Army Brass Band.

After the service a welcome cup of tea and biscuit were provided in St Nicolas church hall.

As usual this was a sterling turnout by the people of Portslade that surely must match any parade in the county.

Many congratulations to the organisers.
