Are the traditional Christmas festivities becoming a thing of the past? Why are the Church Bazaar and Downland Court Kids Christmas party not being held this year?
Some years ago we saw the demise of Portslade Community College Christmas Carol Concert with its usual appeal for The Argus Appeal charity.
It had been hoped with the new school hall that it might have been possible to resurrect the annual concert.
This year we see that the local church in Mile Oak - the Church of the Good Shepherd - has dispensed with its annual Christmas Bazaar in favour of a Gift Day.
The change has proved to be more lucrative as the Gift Day has brought in 50% more than they made at last year's bazaar and without the hassle that went with it.
Downland Court Kids Xmas party has also fallen by the wayside with the youngsters opting for a games evening instead.
Tina Urquhart, chair of the Downland Court Residents Association, explained that it was the youngsters' choice and said they would see how it went this year.
It looks as though the old Santa costume that has been around for some 25 years could well be going into the bin - unless you know otherwise! Phone 411242.
