Green is the operative word for students at Portslade Community College who on Saturday May 14th will complete construction of a greenhouse made of recycled plastic bottles.
The Big Build III is a continuation of their "One Day on Earth" project which began back in October 2010 with students and local residents breaking ground on a community allotment.
Sponsored by Sussex Police, the greenhouse will help promote sustainable living and allow students the opportunity to grow and eat their own organic produce. Once completed, more than 1500 plastic bottles will have been re-used instead of ending up in a landfill.
Although initially part of the Year 7 curriculum, in the future the greenhouse and allotment will be available for local use as the college continues to promote healthy, green living.
