GAGI Week’s talented grand finale
9:33pm Tuesday 21st February 2012 in Community By Emily Hoquee
The Emmaus Blues Band takes to the stage
Some of Portslade’s best performers showed off their skills in a community talent show at Portslade Town Hall last Sunday.
Singers of all ages took to the stage to perform a lively mix of pop, rock and jazz hits. The Emmaus Blues Band from homeless charity Emmaus Brighton & Hove were also impressive and performed a number of hits including Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’ by Bob Dylan.
Lorette Mackie, Community Development Worker said: “There’s so much talent here in Portslade and we really wanted to showcase that. We’re hoping to have a show every couple of months.”
The talent show was the grand finale of Get Active, Get Involved (GAGI) Week which highlighted opportunities available in Portslade through many different events, including conservation activities at Easthill Park and an open day at Foredown allotments. An estimated 1500 people participated in GAGI Week this year.
