Seaford Musical Theatre is urging supporters to vote and support their bid for a £3,000 grant before voting closes.

The theatre, in Saxon Lane, has been shortlisted for an award from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund but a public vote will decide the final outcome.

Shar Turnbull, chair of Seaford Musical Theatre said: “We have just been informed we are currently ranked second in the running but we do not know by how many votes.”

Rehearsals have already begun for the annual pantomime which is the organisation's biggest source of revenue and keeps them running for the rest of the year.

Miss Turnbull said: “It is imperative that we win this grant to repair the heating. If we had to cancel Aladdin, it could endanger the future of the theatre.”

The community theatre, which has 40 adult and 70 junior members, relies heavily on grants and donations from supporters for it's upkeep.

Miss Turnbull said the group prided itself on making theatre accessible to all areas of the community and offered young people a chance to learn performance skills at low cost.

As well as the theatre, the organisation's building is also home to the not-for-profit Seaford Community Cinema and hosts travelling companies.

The local good cause that receives the most votes will win £3,000, with the other groups receiving £2,000, £1,000 or £500 depending on the number of votes received.

Supporters can cast votes for Seaford Musical Theatre - which closes at 11.59pm on Friday, October 10 - in four ways.
