Seaford parents and children who cycle to school were joined by their MP to enjoy the benefits of a two wheeled school run.

Norman Baker cycled with 33 children and adults on the Bike Train through Seaford, serving Cradle Hill, Chyngton and Seaford primary schools.

Mr Baker said: “The Seaford Bike Train is a great way to get children active, learn to bike safely and have fun with their friends while travelling to school.”

Mum Naomi Blackwell had never been a cyclist and ‘was a bit put off by all the lycra’ but she started the group in March when her two daughters wanted to bike to school.

Ms Blackwell said: “A group of us decided that if we cycled together, we could make sure that our children could be seen and encourage others to join us.”

Mr Baker, who joined the group on Monday October 13, congratulated Ms Blackwell and those at Sustrans and Cycle Seahaven who helped set up the group.

He said it was great to see so many children participating and the enthusiasm of the parents who support it.

Jessie Seal from Sustrans said: “Walking and cycling to school is a great way for our children to get the exercise they need every day to keep healthy. Research shows they arrive alert and ready to learn and let’s not forget it’s fun, too.”

School Bike Trains run to Cradle Hill every Monday and Tuesday morning and to Chyngton Primary every Tuesday.
