On Saturday, February 27 2010, a plaque was unveiled at the site of the old Empire Cinema to honour fireman Fred Mace, who was killed fighting a fire there in 1939.
Fireman Mace, who fought the flames at the cinema in Sutton Road, Seaford, from the top of a 40ft ladder, left a wife and two children.
His grand-daughter recently contacted both East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and seaford museum to highlight her grandfathers story and to commemorate his bravery.
The plaque was unveiled at the site of the fire by Norman Baker MP.
It is also hoped that Fireman Mace will have his details placed on the national Fire Brigade memorial near St Paul's Cathedral in London.
