Two walkers were rescued by Coastguard helicopter from the beach near Splash Point, Seaford this morning when they became trapped by the incoming tide.
The adults, aged 25 and 26, originally from Lithuania, were airlifted off the beach and taken to Seaford Golf Course on Seaford Head. The were unharmed and did not need medical attention.
Solent Coastguard Watch Officer Liz Hanson said, “The two people involved in this incident were local to Slough but visiting the coast for the day when they became cut off by the tide.
“They were so lucky they were spotted by members of the public who were able to raise the alarm,” she said.
RNLI lifeboat and the Coastguard Water Rescue team were also called to the scene but were unable to reach the stranded couple because of the rough conditions on the coast.
“We always advise members of the public to check the tide times before setting out on a coastal walk, and if they do get into difficulty, to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard,” said Ms Hanson.
