Rock climbing sessions for children and teens are being run throughout the Easter holidays and May half-term by Brighton charity Adventure Unlimited.

Supporting disadvantaged young people through outdoor education and adventure, the organisation offers year round activities for all ages.

Louise Stone, previous CEO of Adventure Unlimited, said: “The charity helps vulnerable people and children who have a range of issues – physical, mental, emotional and those with disabilities.”

School holiday climbing sessions at the Stanley Deason Leisure Centre, Wilson Avenue, are open to all as equipment is provided and qualified instructors are present to help inexperienced climbers.

“It’s not just about positive activities but about giving children a voice,” said Ms Stone.

“When they are disenchanted and facing big changes in their lives, they need to find a passion.”

Funding for Adventure Unlimited comes from other charities, different events and from its adventure-themed birthday parties.

Michelle Winnard, 22, graduate assistant, said: “It’s good to give kids something fun to do.”

The charity is also helped financially from the open rock climbing sessions, which adults can also attend.

Tim Squire, 41, a local government officer, said: “I like coming to the Rock Court because it’s cheap and supports Adventure Unlimited.”

Easter sessions continue on Tuesday, April 15, Wednesday 16, Thursday 17 and Tuesday, May 27, Wednesday 28, Thursday 29.

Each session costs £8 per person and places can be booked at: www.aultd.org/bookings_enquiries.
