Airshow memorial to pilot who died last year

A memorial to the pilot who died at Shoreham Airshow will be unveiled during this year's event.

Brian Brown, 49, died when his Second World War Hurricane plummeted into a field near Lancing College during a Battle of Britain display at last year's show.

Much of this year's event will be dedicated to Mr Brown, with fellow pilots planning a tribute.

The memorial will be unveiled outside the main terminal building at Shoreham Airport at some stage during the show, with Mr Brown's family expected to attend.

Aerial displays already confirmed to appear during this year's show, which is being held on August 30 and 31, include the Eurofighter Typhoon, Christian Moullec, who flies with geese alongside a microlight, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Falcons Parachute Team.

The popular Spitfire and Hurricane "scramble" display will also return for a third year.

Admission prices have been frozen from 2007, with under 12s getting in free.

The Argus is a media partner of the Shoreham Airshow.

This should be a fitting show and a well deserved tribute to Brian, let's hope the nannies don't curtail what is a good show every year.

Brian might not be there in person this year but his spirit will be there as always.

Indeed. I was at the show last year and the sight of the remaining aircraft in the 'missing man' formation was very moving.

It is clear this pilot would have wanted the show to continue to grow. After all he died entertaining the public and doing his favourite thing.
