'Rubbish' recycling
Simon Eaton says his recycling collection is sporadic
Simon Eaton says his recycling collection is sporadic

A frustrated resident is calling on the council to ensure recycling boxes are collected regularly.

Simon Eaton, of Stanford Road, Brighton, says he has been complaining about the recycling collection in his street for two years.

He said: "There seems to have been a partial collection going on for about two years.

"Sometimes it is picked up and sometimes it isn't and the boxes end up being used as litter bins by passers-by.

"When the boxes aren't picked up, not everybody has the space to store that extra recycling inside and so the boxes are left there and there is a constant presence of them on our street."

Mr Eaton, 40, added: "After two years I am getting really frustrated. It really is disgusting."

A spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council said: "We wrote to all residents last year reminding them of how and when to leave their recycling for collection and we are discussing other options on how best to keep the street clean with Mr Eaton and the ward councillors."

Lived in the Seven Dials area for nearly 8 years now, and never had a problem with either refuse or recycling collection. Think this chap is just a bit unlucky. Are his neighbours having thje same problem then?

Haven't had a problem until this year when, as a result of the brief unofficial strike, management of the system went haywire. We went 5 weeks without a collection. Mind you the high winds distributed much of the recycling round the district!

I lived in two addresses in Hove over a number of years and had exactly the same problem. I also complained constantly and nothing was ever done. Perhaps if we had the power to withhold council tax payments when services are shoddy, something might actually happen. I wish him the best of luck.
