Austin Gray Auction House Sussex held their final auction of the year last week, and with a sale total of nearly £3M, they were delighted with the finale.

Although not the highest price in the auction, the one bedroom flat in Palmeira Square proved the most popular.

It was hotly contested by buyers in the auction room and on the telephone, and eventually bidding stopped at £460,000, which was well in excess of the pre-auction guide price of £375,000 - £400,000.

Other highlights included a detached house in Friston near Eastbourne at £775,000, and a house near Brighton station at £500,000.

The auctioneers were very happy with their overall total for the year, which came close to their record breaking total of £22M for 2016.

Auctioneer Nick Muston said: “Market conditions have been harder this year, but we have maintained our position for auctioning more property in Sussex, by value, than any other auctioneer.

“Although the amount of lots we offered is slightly down, our overall total sold has not been significantly affected and this is because we are regularly asked to sell high value lots.

“This year 10 lots have sold for over half a million pounds, with the highest being the £2.1M achieved for 11 Grand Avenue, Hove.”

The auctioneers are now collecting for the first auction of 2018 on 15th February, so if you have a property that you feel would be suitable for inclusion, contact the auctioneer on 01273 201980, or visit www.auctionhouse/sussex
