Western Road has been the main shopping centre in Brighton for more than a century and this photograph from 1936 shows some familiar buildings, although the shops on the northern side of the road have all changed.
You can clearly see that there is a row of shops on the southern side where Churchill Square now stands. The Clock Tower is clearly visible at the end of the road.
