The rental market in Brighton and Hove has recently seen a significant increase in activity, with strong demand from tenants coupled with an increase in the number of properties available to rent.

Demand is high for all types of property in all areas of the city, from ever-popular studio and one bedroom flats to large family houses and executive apartments.

With more choice for tenants it is important for landlords to make sure their property is well-presented, said Andy Hovey, Leaders Western Road branch manager and council member of Brighton and Hove Estate Agents Association.

He said: “They must have quality fixtures and fittings, neutral décor and modern kitchens and bathrooms at the very least, and should be refreshed between tenancies. Good-quality properties in Brighton & Hove will let quickly for top rents so it is well worth the effort.

“The right property in the right location will give landlords good returns, from a combination of rental income and capital appreciation over the medium to long-term.

“There are lots of opportunities for investors at the moment but it is vital to do your homework on exactly where and what to buy for maximum success by consulting an agent with many years’ experience of letting in the local market.”
