Jason Brand, the new president of the Brighton and Hove Estate Agents Association, continued his company’s record breaking habit by attracting an unprecedented 400 guests to the association’s annual ball held at The Grand earlier this month.

Jason says: ”It was a phenomenal effort all round and we are extremely grateful to everyone who helped and donated gifts.”

The auction, skilfully hosted by broadcaster and writer Nick Owen, raised the impressive sum of £5,000 for the Argus Appeal and more than £2,000 for the Chestnut Tree House, nominated by Latest Homes.

Jason says ”While Brighton and Hove have performed consistently well in the market during difficult conditions, there is no mistaking that the market has roared back to life.

“House prices have recently hit the largest year on year rise since 2007 and the indication is that the demand is being met by an improved supply, which prevents the overheating of the market and will help to underpin a wider economic recovery.

”Brighton and Hove is particularly well placed at present, with experts predicting prices in the commutable area around London set to rise by five or 6% , and with affordable mortgages still on offer and interest rates stable, 2014 might be the year in which to move!

We will, however, have to keep a wary eye on the effect of the Government pulling back on its Help to Buy scheme and watch for any changes in interest rates.”

Established in 1886, the BHEAA was created with the intention of maintaining and improving the high standards of the profession. Jason added: ”As president I fully intend to continue that tradition, and would urge anyone considering buying or selling a house to instruct a BHEAA member as not only are there strict, ethical codes of practice, they are also up to date with all requirements of legislation, such as The Misrepresentation Act .

”The association can also act as independent arbitrators who investigate complaints. With the upheaval of moving home you should at least be secure in the knowledge that you are in reputable, professional hands.”
