A West Sussex gymnastic club is doing somersaults after winning the Miller Homes Summer of Sport competition.

Worthing Gymnastics Club specialises in Men's Artistic Gymnastics and is working hard to produce the next generation of gymnasts and coaches.

The club beat off stiff competition to be chosen as the winner of the £500 prize money and will be putting the cash to good use.

Heather Sampford, head coach at Worthing Gymnastics Club, said the money would make a huge difference.

“We are thrilled to receive £500 from Miller Homes and are very proud of Worthing Gymnastics Club for being a worthy candidate and beneficiary.

“The money will buy a vital piece of equipment for the gym, a versatile multi use coaching block, which will be used by all members of our club from Pre School to Adult. “As a community non profit sports club we recognise the importance of working in partnerships with local businesses.”

She added: “Our aspirations are to provide a facility with a focus on Men's Artistic Gymnastics whilst providing a broad based gymnastics club for all. Building foundations for a sustainable legacy for the next generation of gymnasts in our community.”

The Summer of Sport competition was run by Miller Homes Midlands and judged by Ben Brown, who plays for Sussex County Cricket Club. Ben, who lives in Hove, said: “There were some great entries to the competition but Worthing Gymnastic Cub really stood out for me. It’s great to see them working so hard to get everyone involved in sport. The competition ran throughout the summer months and was open to all sports clubs in the South.”

Tracey Lee, sales director for Miller Homes South, said: “Worthing Gymnastic Club is a worthy winner of our Summer of Sport fund and fought off tough competition from other entrants.

“Building great communities is at the heart of our ethos and we firmly believe that initiatives such as our Summer of Sport campaign go a long way towards nurturing these. We hope Worthing Gymnastic Club will make the most of their donations to further enhance the great work they do in their local community and we look forward to following their progress.”
