Sitting in the High Weald area of East Sussex, the bustling and thriving market town of Heathfield is the perfect place to live and work. Throughout the year there are a number of regular events. The Cuckoo Fair, Heathfield Show, Le Marche and the Christmas Family Fun Day to name a few.

According to local legend The Cuckoo Fair heralds in the Spring and England would enjoy no Spring at all without the news from Heathfield. In 1315 the bishop of Chichester, who was the Lord of the Manor, made the grant of a market and fair and the news of spring’s arrival is announced by the old woman of Heffle Fair. She carries a basket which, during the day, she opens to release a "cuckoo" which tells all of England that summer is on its way.

The Heathfield Show is the largest one-day Agricultural Show in the country and is held on the Saturday of the second May bank holiday. The whole Show is designed to be informative and create a day out in the countryside that will inform, interest and entertain. There is something for everyone, food, flowers, crafts, horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and a wealth of trade stands large and small. The High Weald, in particular, is well known for the diversity of its landscape, crafts, food stuffs and expertise that has been built up over the past centuries and passed from generation to generation. A day at the Heathfield Show will provide you with an insight into all the area has to offer.

The very popular French market, Le Marche, is held on August bank holiday Monday, with equal numbers of French and English traders, entertainment with street theatre, jazz on the bandstand and story-telling in the library.

Christmas in Heathfield starts in November with the Family Fun Day. This is usually held on the last Saturday of the month and one of the local primary schools provides carol singers and the Christmas lights are switched on in the High Street at 4.30pm. This event is organized jointly by the Chamber of Trade, Heathfield Rotary, the Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council and the Heathfield Partnership. It has been a great success and brings large crowds into the shopping centre and sets up the Christmas shopping season in Heathfield.

Heathfield sits between Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells and is surrounded by many places of national importance to visit. Bodiam Castle dating from 1385 is one of the most famous, moated, medieval castles in the Country. Batemans in Burwash was Rudyard Kipling's beautiful 17th century home. Sissinghurst Castle Garden where Vita Sackville-West and her husband created a world renowned garden. The town of Battle lies close by with the Abbey where the Norman army defeated King Harold in one of England's most famous battles in 1066. Great Dixter at Northiam was the family home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd and an historic house, a garden, a centre of education, and a place of pilgrimage for horticulturists from across the world. These are just a small selection and there is so much more to this beautiful and ideally situated part of the world.
