A donation scheme set up by leading local housebuilder Taylor Wimpey South Thames has seen local people choose Shoreham Foodbank as their favourite good cause to receive a £250 cash boost.

The developer, currently building high-quality homes at its Shoreham Crescent development in Shoreham by Sea, donated £250 as part of its donation box scheme, which asks visitors to the development to vote for one of three local charities, community groups or fundraising initiatives to receive a monetary donation.

Sarah Measor, Project Leader for Shoreham Foodbank, said: “It’s fantastic to receive this donation. It was amazing news to discover we’d even been nominated, let alone voted for as a monthly winner.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity for making more people aware of what we do and to realise that we’re here to help those in need.”

Shoreham Foodbank, established in 2013 and located off Ham Road in Shoreham by Sea, is organised by a dedicated team of approximately 35 volunteers.

Sarah said: “We help on average 10-15 clients per week, and they can range from single people to those with families, which means we can often be supporting three times that number if more families need our help. During the last financial year from 2015 to 2016 we fed 1,000 people.

“We hope to invest the £250 donation from Taylor Wimpey into making improvements to the support we provide our clients and to further the work we do at Shoreham Foodbank.

“We receive a lot of food donations from the local community but don’t receive many financial contributions, so this has been really encouraging as we’re reliant on support like this.

“It’s wonderful that Taylor Wimpey has the donation box initiative in place, as everyone has a part to play in supporting the local area and it’s so encouraging to know that a big business like them is passionate about supporting local causes.

“As a community we can achieve so much more by all working together. We’d like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey and the local people who voted for us.”

Susan Joseph, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Thames, said: “We’re always very keen to support worthy causes in the areas where we build our new homes, but we’re conscious that people aren’t always aware that funding from Taylor Wimpey might be available to them.

“That’s why we’ve set up our donation box scheme at Shoreham Crescent, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this support to Shoreham Foodbank and help them continue providing their invaluable services to local people.”

There’s a superb range of homes currently available to reserve at Shoreham Crescent, including two bedroom properties priced from £355,000 and three and four-bedroom designs from £425,000 and £530,000 respectively.
