Homewise rows the full length of the River Thames, that’s 215 miles, in just one day for charity fundraiser.

On the 29 June, Worthing-based retirement property specialist Homewise will row the length of the River Thames to raise £10,000 for two charities; Ahoy and the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

12 intrepid members of the team will be travelling up to the Capital to row on the river itself, whilst the rest of the team will be using rowing machines at the head office in Worthing to make sure they hit their target of 215 miles.

Recently awarded the Gold Investors in People (IIP) Standard, placing Homewise in the top 14% of IIP employers in the UK, Homewise are used to taking on and conquering challenges. They regularly get hands on with local community projects and each year select a national charity to support, extending their company values to inspire and empower people in their everyday lives.

This Oar-some challenge is just one of many of their achievements. Last year, a team of adventurous Homewise staff scaled 3,560 feet of Mount Snowdon to successfully raise £6,000 for the charity Mind.

Ronald Mcdonald House Charities provides home-from-home accommodation for families whose children are in hospital offering the gift of togetherness and support. Their aim is to make children happier and healthier by keeping families close, giving them a place to rest and refresh; a place that feels like home. Their network of houses is tailored to meet the urgent needs of each community and can now be found in more than 63 countries and regions across the globe.

Mark Neal, Managing Director of Homewise said: “The Ronald McDonald House Charities provided my family with home away from home support when we really needed it most. Rosie our daughter, who is 16 now, has been treated at The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford since she was 14 years old. Like many parents we wanted to be as close to her as often as possible whilst she was undergoing treatment. Having accommodation made available for us on the top floor of The John Radcliffe Hospital greatly reduced the levels of stress we endured during an already difficult time. Because of the Ronald McDonald House Charities, we were able to be by her side every day, which was a great comfort for us and has given Rosie the extra strength she needed to get well. We are so grateful to the charity that we want to help make sure other families are offered the same invaluable support.”

AHOY, the second charity Homewise is supporting, is a water-based charity that changes people’s lives through sailing and rowing. Their primary objective is giving opportunities for disadvantaged or at-risk youths and disabled people to participate in activities and courses on an equal level. By bringing together people from many walks of life to work together as a community and help others, Ahoy teaches invaluable transferable and employable skills.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London said: “The work the AHOY Centre charity is delivery on the River Thames is both innovative and inspiring. By working with those most in need of support, they are helping those with disabilities and providing excellent diversionary activities for young people.”
