Residents of Shoreham-by-Sea have nominated mental health charity Corner House as a worthy local cause to receive a welcome £250 donation from Taylor Wimpey South Thames.

The leading local housebuilder is running a donation box scheme at Shoreham Crescent and is inviting visitors to the development to vote for one of three local charities, community groups or fundraising initiatives each month.

Jackie Davey, Director of Services at Corner House, said: “It is fantastic to see that so many people are willing to support the important work that we do.

“We are an established charity which has been running for about 30 years now, during which time we have helped a great many people in the area who are affected by mental illness.

“Our mental health resource centre offers a space for people to engage in arts and crafts, activities promoting wellbeing and mindfulness or group sessions, or merely socialise with others. The feedback we have received has been amazing, and people have said that the centre has provided a lifeline to them when they needed it most.

“We like to do lots of different things to help people living with mental illness, so this donation may be used to fund the greenhouse in our garden area or allow us to organise a day trip, among a number of other things.

“It is important to remember that one in four people will experience a mental health issue during their life, so everything possible should be done to help raise awareness. People can show their support for our work by volunteering or making donations to our cause – every little thing people are willing to do is a huge help.”

Susan Joseph, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, said: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we are delighted to make this donation to Corner House.

“The work that they do plays a vital role in raising awareness of mental illness and the impact it can have on people’s lives, and we are glad that people living in the area have recognised this.”
