Founder member Ashley Beedle may have left, but X-Press 2 is still very much a going concern, as their latest collaboration with Moshi Moshi-signed singer-songwriter James Yuill is set to prove.

Rocky and Diesel are about to unleash the new track Time In onto unsuspecting dancefloors across the country.

“It’s already been played on Pete Tong’s show so it’s building up a nice little buzz,” says Rocky.

“It was our Brighton-based A & R guy Andy who’d heard of James and said we should check him out.

“He was cool to work with. He came up to our studio, hung out and got the vibe of what we were about.”

It’s slightly different from X-Press 2’s previous big-name collaborations, which have seen artists like former Talking Head David Byrne and Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner add their vocal parts from America.

The collaboration is the first in a series of new tracks and remixes the Skint-signed duo are working on following the amicable split with Ashley in 2008, which was marked by the “Best Of” compilation Raise Your Hands.

“We have always been fairly flexible over the years,” says Rocky. “Ashley leaving wasn’t a problem, we are still really good mates. Times change and people want to do different things.

“We just want to work on some tracks for the time being rather than sit down and do a full-on album project. There’s no real market for albums when it’s so easy for people to make their own from iTunes.”

This club outing will see the pair bring some of their new mixes and remixes played across four decks and two mixers.

“There will be lots of exclusive stuff never before played in the clubs,” says Rocky.
