Works by last year’s Artist Open Houses Artist Of The Year Vanessa Conyer, in partnership with Rosie Emerson, are on display in The Old Market’s foyer and Waterloo Room daily during the festival from 11am to 6pm.

Conyer also designed this year’s Artists Open Houses front cover and is one of the ceramists on display at the Ceramic House, in Stanmer Villas, Hove.

Her work with Rosie Emerson uses the mythological figurine of The Three Graces as “a doorway to exploring our own personal goddess archetypes”.

Alongside an exhibition of his own work, Davis is inviting visitors to have their portraits taken. They will be posted online, and available to purchase as fine art prints.

21A Brunswick Square, Hove

The Guide has featured Alex Bamford’s stunning moonlight photography before – taken using a tripod and extremely long shutter speeds.

He is one of nine contemporary artists on display at 21A Brunswick Square.

LEE MILLER

Friend’s Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton

A rare chance to get a Lee Miller vintage print, in a sale organised by her granddaughter Ami Bouhassane.

Miller, who lived at Farley Farm, Chiddingly towards the last years of her life, was both a Surrealist model for the likes of Man Ray and an acclaimed photojournalist during the Second World War. Images from the Lee Miller Archives will also be on display.

ANDRE LICHTENBERG

Studio 106, 106 Coleridge Street, Hove

Brazilian-born fine art photographer Andre Lichtenberg has been exhibited in London’s Photographers Gallery, the Barbican Centre and Brazil’s Centro Cultural Sao Paulo.

His work has also been commissioned by The Sunday Times Magazine and France’s Le Monde.

JO SWEETING

72 Ashford Road, Brighton

Sculptor Jo Sweeting’s work can currently be seen by thousands in the west stand reception area of the Amex Community Stadium.

The half-ton Portland stone sculpture Tilt combines 11 seagulls with lines from Ted Hughes’ poem Gulls Aloft. It was commissioned as a gift to Tony Bloom from American Express.

Sweeting will be showing large lettercut bowls, botanical carvings and figurative work, alongside five other artists ranging from wood turners to printmakers.

RICHARD NOTT

St Michael’s Church, Victoria Road, Brighton

Dresses recreated in oils from the co-founder of cult fashion label Workers For Freedom. Nott has been inspired by Parisian couture, Japanese kimonos and St Michael’s own vestments.

THE ILLUSTRATED RECIPE

Cameron Contemporary Art, Gallery 40, 40 Gloucester Road, Brighton

Recipes from the Royal Pavilion kitchens by George IV’s own chef Antonin Carême – ranging from mock turtle soup to jugged hare – have provided the inspiration for this group exhibition.

Among those contributing are illustrator and designer Sarah Arnett, Ian Berry who works with discarded jeans to create detailed portraits and urban landscapes, knitter Kate Jenkins famous for her crocheted food, designer and printmaker Ed Kluz and oil painter Kirsty Wither.

THE SUNDIAL HOUSE

51 Upper Lewes Road, Brighton

Silver, wood, mosaic, card and even a beer glass have all been used to create a selection of modern sundials by artists Jackie Jones, Rob Stephenson and Marian Gerrett.

LISA’S OPEN HOUSE

18 Belgrave Street, Brighton

Opening for the first year, Lisa Holdcroft is most famous in the city for her Cheeky Guide illustrations. This open house also features a Where’s Wally-style quiz for younger visitors.

POP-UP GALLERY

122 Beaconsfield Villas, Brighton

Perdita Sinclair has invited artists from the UK, France and Kenya whose work has been seen at the Royal Academy and John Moore Painting Prize to fill her two-bedroom flat with art.

Alongside Sinclair are selections from Nick Carrack, Enzo Marra, Andrew McNaughton and Maguy Seyer.

MASON AND MURPHY

19 Queens Gardens, Brighton

Old school cameras are used to capture the world around us in Brighton-based real film photographer Toby Mason and Margate printed furniture and textile designer Zoe Murphy’s joint exhibition, making its debut at the open houses.

OPEN STUDIOS

168 King’s Road Arches, Brighton

Perhaps the most condensed Artists Open Houses venue is the Open Studios, which features 16 different artists in one seafront arch, ranging from Guardian award-winning photographer Paul Read to political belly dancer Edina Husanovic.
