To mark World Aids Day tomorrow, the Brighton-based HIV/Aids Alliance is staging an outdoor photography exhibition depicting the way in which ordinary people from across the globe are responding to the virus.

The organisation supports communities in 30 developing nations in their efforts to take action against HIV. It also works to ensure governments honour their promises to tackle the virus, especially their pledges to ensure HIV prevention, treatment, care and support is available to all who need it by 2010.

Entitled Communities For Life, the show runs until December 7 and will be lit up at night. It can also be viewed at www.aidsalliance.org/exhibition for the duration of the exhibition.

The exhibition is the first Jubilee Square event to be presented by Basement Arts Productions, which has taken over responsibility for staging events in front of the Jubilee Library.

Formerly known as Brighton Fringe Arts Production, their Christmas line-up ranges from specially commissioned shows, community events and exhibitions to markets, concerts and live music.

Jazz In The Square will be held on the first three Thursdays in December and will feature local bands playing a mix of traditional and modern jazz at 6pm and 8pm. There will also be four carol concerts, on December 8, 14, 15 and 21.

The highlight of the programme is undoubtedly the launch of the Burning Of The Clocks ceremony (Thursday, December 13, 6.30pm). Prior to that, there will be a final opportunity to make your own Tower Of Babel lantern in a workshop in The Basement, Kensington Street, Brighton (3pm-6pm).

The Lanes Christmas Market (Saturday, December 15, 10.30am-6.30pm) will offer more than 30 stalls selling beauty products, clothes, accessories and interior goods. Mince pies and baked apple cake will be on sale and children's entertainment will also be provided.

The Nacimiento Schools Project (Sunday, December 16) will see Falmer School students collaborate with Same Sky artists for a modern, Spanish-style take on the story of the Nativity.

The square is also available to hire for events.
