This year’s Christmas show, a take on Sleeping Beauty with Sleepy Jean and the Kingdom Of Nod has all the elements you’d expect from a traditional pantomime and oodles of silliness.

Monty Python’s Carol Cleveland is delightful as Evil Queen Maleficent who wants to rule the Kingdom. The classic comedy is alluded to with jokes and songs such The Lumberjack Song.

Tom Beard makes a triumphant return from last year’s Abanazar to play Sir Naughtybottom. He engages his young audience with his high energy dancing and singing “Everything is awesome” and his flow of silly jokes such as: “The Land of Nod’s chief painter and decorated froze to death – he needed a second coat”.

Singing highlights include Queen Maleficent’s I Want To Be Evil and Prince Charming and Sleepy Jean’s romantic duet You Got It All.

Children sat on the floor eating sweets that flew from the stage and waved glow sticks throughout the long performance of over two hours.

Local children also dance in the show and others are taken on stage at the end in this show with a community feel.

With puppetry in the form of Scales The Dragon, bouncing rabbits, the “Look behind you” act, and flying cakes, children were entertained throughout .
