There was a gloomy feel around Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, as the Bristol based four-piece’s huge, ambient growls satisfied the headbanging crowd on a deafening Thursday night.

The band are currently on tour, promoting the release of their first LP, Dying.

The title perfectly describes the dark, intense vibe of the record. However, it was going to be a challenge to reproduce this feel for a live show.

Long, eerie guitar drones were ever-present throughout the set, creating a constant thunder of noise.

Frontman, Joe Hatt, battled his guitar to prise out enough screaming feedback, even resorting to using his phone as a tool to help interfere with the pickups.

Hatt’s sinister vocals added further darkness to the gig. His minimal lyrics created another layer on top of the long instruments, giving tracks a final haunting kick.

The band didn’t seem worried about putting on a show, with none of the songs introduced by name, something I feel is important in such intimate venues.

Spectres’ fierce style was certainly not lost, with the wash of guitar feedback sure to ring in the sore ears of the visibly satisfied group of fans for a very long time.
