Madcap mayhem and calamitous blunders result in an evening of sheer lunacy in Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

The incompetence of The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society in presenting J M Barrie’s classic story includes bungling stage hands, faulty props, a ‘stand-in’ flying operator causing Peter Pan to repeatedly crash and a clueless sound effects man.

But this outrageous spoof is not as slick or hilarious as its smash hit predecessor, The Play That Goes Wrong, by the same writers - Henry Lewis, Johathan Sayer and Henry Shields.

Farce needs split-second timing, and when that is not achieved the result can be embarrassingly silly slapstick as occasionally happens here.

However, this play within a play engages the audience in a series of pantomime pranks. Leading mirth-maker Laurence Pears is the Society’s director Chris Bean, who also plays Mr Darling and Captain Hook. His Basil Fawlty-style tantrums are hysterical.

Annie Twilloiil (Naomi Sheldon) does a series of quick changes as Mrs Darling, maid Lisa, Tinker Bell and pirate Cecco, while flirtatious Sandra Wilkinson (Leonie Hill) puts a new spin on Wendy.

Alex Bartram (Peter Pan), Cornelius Booth (an over-aged child) and Matt Cavendish (the crocodile and Nana the dog) add to the bedlam.
