The Greys delivered up two tasty servings of Nashville pie to keep Brighton's Americana/Folk fans happy.

First up was the delightful Liverpudlian Hannah Rose Platt, featuring songs from Portrait, her impressive debut album which she recorded in Nashville.

To follow was Don Gallardo, who hails from Northern California but has been living in Nashville for the past eight years.

He was promoting Hickory, his fourth album, with the help of Travis Stock on bass and the considerable Hammond keyboard talent of Thomas Collison.

The hatted, bearded trio looked the part and the intimate crowd were friendly and foot tapping from the start.

Gallardo's vocal was strong and mighty fine, smooth rather than gritty. The harmonies rang true from the heart and just once there was yodelling in a yodel free zone!

Gallardo strapped on his harmonica for Neil Young's Out On The Weekend; The Beatles's Norwegian Wood had a nice reworking; and the occasional mandolin prettied up what was already a sweet sound.

Another entertaining evening of fine acoustic music at The Greys - a small local with a massive reputation in the folk and roots community worldwide.

The friendly pub atmosphere brings out the best in the visiting musicians, as Don Gallardo himself would testify.
