Even without the karate, her voice, song writing, authenticity and sense of fun made Anne-Marie a quadruple threat.
Backed by some great performances on bass, drums and synths, the songs and their delivery were enough.
Not enough for Anne-Marie though as she endeavoured to make the audience feel as comfortable in their own skin as she evidently did herself. Seeing her live meant enjoying all the fun aspects of her personality such as the infectious giggle, changing the colour of her shoe lights between each song with a karate kick and sharing chocolates with the audience.
It also meant being able to hear the crack of emotion in her voice as she connected with her searingly honest lyrics in ballads such as Gentleman, Stole and Should Have Been Me.
Chatting to us in the same style of language the lyrics were written in confirmed their integrity.
That juxtaposition of strength and vulnerability was themed throughout the set as she came back fighting with the kick-ass, bouncy upbeat songs such as Gemini, Breathing Fire and Do it Right all from her eagerly anticipated upcoming album.
In refreshingly new karate/hip hop/ electro/RnB style, she did it right.
Five stars
