Playing to a packed audience on a Sunday night at The Haunt at the end of their UK tour, Boy And Bear were at their best playing their slower, sliding more atmospheric songs.

The Australian indie rock five piece were certainly accomplished musicians.

The lead singer Dave Hosking had a distinctive voice that gave the band its personality, singing with a sweeping laconic style which was beautifully complimented both instrumentally and vocally.

They made the kind of dreamy music that you forget yourself in.

However when they covered the Amy Winehouse classic Back To Black they seemed to expose a few weaknesses.

Firstly, and most importantly, they hadn't really seemed to have experienced the black that Amy was singing about. With a sped up tempo it sounded a little bit neutered and easy listening.

A handful of other songs seemed slightly mediocre, but there were enough well crafted and well performed songs to satisfy, with gems like Bridges from their seductive platinum selling second album Harlequin Dream standing out.

Bizarrely the band stated that they don't do encores but the crowd had seen enough and seemed to leave with smiling faces.
